Ryan Lochte Doesn't Know What Yom Kippur Is Because He's Ryan Lochte

Maybe Ryan Lochte has spent too much time in the pool.

The disgraced Olympic swimmer said he did not know what Yom Kippur was during an interview with New York Magazine posted Sunday, then appeared to confuse it with Canadian Thanksgiving.

Reporter Jessica Pressler went shopping with Lochte, a “Dancing with the Stars” contestant, at the Grove in Los Angeles for their interview. The exchange is just … precious.

Perhaps for obvious reasons, at the last minute, Lochte’s publicist decides to come along. “Work is slow,” she says. “It’s Yom Kippur.”

“What’s that?” Lochte asks curiously.

“It’s the Jewish Day of Atonement.”

“Wasn’t it their Thanksgiving two days ago?”

“That was Canadian Thanksgiving.”

“Oh,” says Lochte, shifting his hands in his pocket and pulling out his phone, which, as it turns out, has been butt-dialing people. “Ha!” he says. “My friend was just on the phone for like five minutes! Ha-ha-ha!

The 32-year-old six-time Olympic gold medalist has a lot on his mind as he attempts to right his image after fabricating a story about being robbed at gunpoint during the Rio Olympics.

In the aftermath of that news, he’s signed with a few new sponsors after losing some major ones. He recently got engaged. He’s competing on “Dancing With The Stars.”

But, dude.
